A Big Bang in the Patent Data Universe

I know I’m not alone when I say that I love data visualization as a mode of artistic expression - even when there's not necessarily an "actionable insight" to be had. Said in another way, I love a cool map – old or new – whatever the coordinate system. This 45 second vid shows a tiny slice of how Graph Commons visualization software handles patent data (from IFI CLAIMS) after just a little massaging (from me). For this post, the project itself is irrelevant. I just found myself kind of hypnotized by how playing with node “gravity” settings created kind of a “big bang” effect in one instance and led to some genuine insight in another (used it in my HIMSS22 presentation). I haven’t come across network-mapping visualization applied to this kind of data in my travels, so I thought I’d share.
